GENERAL NEWS.

The Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Entertainers provided a very enjoyable evening’s entertainment for the patients of the Wakari Sanatoriu\n on Tuesday evening. The party of about 20 were kindly conveyed there by motor char-a-banc, and the inmates were soon made to feel that a treat was in store. An excellent musical programme was provided, included in which were solo items by Messrs W. Wilhelmaon, A. Dempster, B. Collie, K. S. Wardrop, F. Sharpe, C. King, H. Tiankinson, and G. Scott. The choir was afterwards entertained at supper by the matron and staS. Through the generous assistance of club members fruit, confectionery, and cigarettes were distributed among the patients. The monthly meeting of the North-East Valley United Band of Hope was presided over by the president (the Rev. S. Moms). The evening was devoted to competitions in singing and recitations for members only. Miss Williamson, Messrs Hictt and Laing acted as judges. Following are the results; —First grade in singing, Effie Reekie 1. Second grade in singing—Louvain M’Donald 1, Francis Grace 2. First grade recitations --Doris M’Laughlan 1, Sam Law 2. Second grade reciVuioas—James Moore 1, Sydney Peterson 2. Third grade recitations— Marion Fernie 1, Isobel Barron 2. It was decided that those items should be repeated at tho annual concert, which is to bo held on August 18. At the close of the programme tho annual business meeting was hold. The secretary (Miss Folson) presented the annual report, which showed that during the year monthly meetings had been held with tho exception of the two midsummer months. The attendance had been most satisfactory; 50 new members had been enrolled, making fa total of 317 on the roll. The Arnold TyreU trophy was won by Alex. Watt, he having brought the largest number of new members. Interesting and instruci; ve addresses had been given by Captain .t'aylor, the Revs. George Miller, H. 1, Fiebig Corlett, D. S. Death, F. E. Hillikcr, and Waterhouse. The treasurer (Miss Davidson) submitted the financial statement showing a credit balance in hand after giving the proceeds of the annua] concert to the temperance work. It was decided on the motion of tho retiring president that the bice of president should be a rolling one and Mr Corlett was appointed president for the ensuing year. On the motion of Mr Hillikcr ail the officers and members of committee were re-elected. Mr Laing was appoint’d on the committee in place of Mr Anderson, who has left the district.
