MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held yesterday morning, and was attended 'by Messrs George Black (president, in the chair), William Robertson, James Macandrew, 11. H. Bdie, G. R. Ritchie, Sir John Roberts, A. Johnson, I. Scott, H. M. Driver, D. Andrew, John Kbrnmo, H. Turner, H. C. Campbell, James James Gow, James Blair, James girtles, E. 0. Hazlett. R. A. S. Cantrell, T. J. Gawn. The President, before proceeding 'vnth the business of the meeting, referred to the death of Sir Walter Buchanan. He stated that Sir Walter had for many years taken n very keen interest in all matters pertaining to agriculture, and especially in regard to primary products, and his name would go down to posterity as one of our greatest pioneers. Ho moved—“ That this meeting places on record its high appreciation of the valuable services rendered by the late Sir Walter Buchanan in extending and promoting the agricultural, pastoral, and dairying interests of this dominion. Pir Walter held the respect and esteem, of all classes of the community, and was at all times ready and willing to assist by practical advice and financial assistance any movement which tended to the advancement Of Now Zealand.” Sir John Roberta referred to his long association with Sir Walter, and stated that no man had done more in the advancement of the dominion than ho had.—The motion was carried, members standing. Tlie President, welcomed Mr William Robertson and Mr R. H. Edie, the newlyelected members of the committee, and stated that ho was quite, satisfied that their election on the committee would b© of considerable assistance to the society. The President moved the adoption of the following report of the executive: —The subcommittee set up at last meeting for the purpose of reporting on the improvements at Tahuna Parle, and the suitability of Lake Logan as a show site, is not yet in a position to report. The Dunedin City Council has been communicated with, and the committee submits herewith the correspondence with the Harbour Board on the matter, but so far has not been able to ascertain the position, and until such time as the committee has some assurance ns to the nature of the tenure of Lake Logan site, no recommendations can bo made in that direction. In reference to the suggested improvements at Tahuna Park, there are some important matters that will require most careful consideration before the comminee would be justified in recommending any largo expenditure.—The report was received. The Finance Committee submitted accxaints amounting to £946 7a Bd, and they wore passed for payment. Messrs D. Andrew and E. F. Duthie submitted a report in connection with their attendance as the society’s delegates at the Royal Society’s first annual meeting.—On the motion of the President, the report was received and the delegates thanked for their attendance. The following special prizes were offered and referred to the various subcommittees; —Wright, Stephenson, and Co. (Ltd.), challenge cup for competition at horse parade. Friesian Breeders’ Association, Waitaki challenge shield and oup for South Island championship (Friesian section). Briscoe and Co., trophy, £3 3s, for best roadster or hack up to 11 stone. A. Stewart, £2 2s for best spring-van horse. Mlilburn Lime and Cement Co., truck of ground lime for most points in fat cattle. Forbury Park Trotting Club, £lO 10s for light horses Dunedin Jockey Club, £SO for competition classes. N.Z. Coal and Oil Company, one truck of coal, to bo allocated by the society. Otago blunt Club, two silver cups for competiton in the hunting section. Clydesdale Horse Society, two British Clydesdale Horse Society's medals for competition in that section. Anonymous, £5 for best gelding four years or over. Refrigerating Company, trophy for roost points in fat lambs, Romney Marsh Association, two champion shields for Romney rum and ewe. N.Z. Sheep Breeders’ Association, two shields for beet Border Leicester ram and ewe, and also two shields for the best Corriedale ram and owe, David Murray, cup for most points in Shorthorn cattle.—The secretary was instructed to _ thank the donors for their support and interest. Messrs Stewart and Paine wrote advising the committee as to the position of the title to Tahuna. Park and the society’s rights in connection therewith.—The letter was referred to the executive. The annual horse parade was fixed for September 25, and similar classes as last year were approved, and the secretary was instructed to ascertain the conditions for competition for (ho Wright, Stephenson, and Co. challenge cup. A letter was received from the Hon. W. Downie Stewart (hanking the committee for the use of the board room anti its sen-ices in connection with (ho display of primary products for the Wembley Exhibition The T> --’ Cross Convalescent Home wrote thanking the committee for the privileges received at. the Winter Show, and advising (ini the sale of articles made by invalided soldiers was satisfactory. The Otago Rugby Football Union wrote enclosing cheque for £lO. annual donation to the appeal fund. The sheep, cattle, and Clydesdale Horse Sub-committees all submitted their reports in connection with tho_ revising of the schedule for the forthcoming Summer Show, which were approved.
