TAIERI COUNTY COUNCIL.

ENGINEER’S REPORT. The Taieri County Council engineer (Mr B. B. Coustem) reports as follows tor tne month of July:— NORTH AND EAST TAIERI. The contracts for delivering .350 tons of metal from the depot at Laings Inll to roada of .Flagstaff and fox delivering metal on Dukes road have been completed. The Silvoretrcam Valley road has been surfaced from Duke’s road to Leishman s the potholes on tho Mam Soyth road from Coach and Horses to Cullens, have been attended to, tho hollow on Riccarton road at Pughs filled, and the dam removed from Dukes road ditch. KAIKORAI AND OTOKIA. The pipe culvert at M’Millan’s Green Island Bush has been lengthened and toe road regraded ready for metalling. Ine Femhill road and Blackhead road have been surfaced. Tho grading of the Taieri Mouth road has been proceeded with, and the section of road from Kaikorai bridge to Bruce’s Rook completed. The potholes on the Main South road from Otokia to Henlov have boon attended and a 42-ineh culvert inserted across the road at Hopehill in place of the old stone culvert destroyed last April Or M‘lntosh and tho engineer recommended that the formed streets of Mlanton be surfaced throughout, but the riding funds will not permit of any gravelling being carried out this season. With regard works applied for at Otokia Township they recommend that the drain ho extended provided applicants paj half cost- otherwise die matter must stand over until next, year’s Main Highways proposals arc considered. In view of improv em.ente contemplated to this stretch of road it is not wise to determine entrance levels at present, and it is therefore recommended that Mr Steven’s entrance bo attended to temporarily by the council. OUTRAM AND MAUNGATUA. Tho washout at too Lagoon on Campbell’s road has been refilled, too main pomls through Outram township repaired with gravel, and tho potholes on tho Moinona road attended to. The approach to Fulton's bridge, Woodside. has been completed the Berwick Hill rnclallod, and the new metal on tho Mill Crock road regulated. Cr Blair has arranged with Mr Hackeit to shift his fence hock so as, to givo Mr Waugh a Ixitter entrance, and it is understood that this wall bo satisfactory Lo all parties concerned. The road ditch at West Taieri Church has been deepened' to carry away the water that was tho sub j eel. of complaint. DEEP STREAM AND STRATH TAIERI. The formation of too track to Mr Graham’s Run, Sweetwater Creek, has been completed. The cost was £209, of which Mr Graham has contributed in money and value £4B. and tho Waikonait.i Council has promised £35. The quarry squad are in camp at Barowood attending to the Puke rang! Reefs road, for which a Government grant of £2OO has been authorised. The Three O'dock track has been .surfaced, also the Top Hindon road. Work at Gladbrook Settlement has boon completed, the k .., a i cost being £541. Application has been made to the Public Works Department. for payment of £569 subsidy. Tawe street Middleman'll, has boon graded and gravelled, and wtvcral of (he gravelled roads have been surfaced with (he grader. Tho men are now working on tho Top Road from Tisdales to Rohertslna. This section of road has been graded and is lining gravelled. Messrs Tisdale and M’Kmnon have supplied teams free of cost, am! Mr Tisdale has supplied gravel from his paddock frets
