PLUNKET SOCIETY.

The monthy mooting of the committee of the Koyal Now Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children was hold in tho Tlunkot ollice yesterday. Present— Mesdames Jos. M'Georgo (in the chair). Dove. John Watson, Cunnmgiiamo, Uoghorn,’ Eraser, Clappcrton, J. C. M'Georgo, Isaacs, Gallaway, Kattray, Noill, Coleman, Mis« Joachim, and tho secretary. An apology for absence was received from Mrs O'Neill. Tho hoo. treasurer presented the monthly statement of the society’s fLnancca to date and accounts were passed for payment. Tho Matron of tho Karitano-Harris Hospital reported for the month of Juno: Number of patients in hospital on May 31— mothers 3, babies 17; admitted during June —mothers 11, babies 17; discharged during Juno —mothers 14, babies 17; in hospital on Juno 30, babies 17; largest number in hospital on any one day—mothers 4, cables 20. One premature baby was admitted (a few hours old) weighing 31b. This little baby is doing very well. One mother and baby were admitted from Aexandra, two mothers and babies wore admitted from Balclutha, and eight mothers and babies from Dunedin and suburbs. Six babies were admitted from Dunedin and suburbs. There are 16 Blanket nurses in training and 12 Kairitano murses. Nurse Naumann commenced a comae of Plunkct training during the month. Karitane Nurse Biss finished her training and Nursio Swabey commenced a course of Karitane training during the month. Lectures were given by Dr It. H. Williams during tho month, to tho nurses in training. Visitors to the hospital numbered f 37. _ Gifts wore received from tho Misses Knight, Hitchcock, and Clare, and from tho Glendining Homo. The Banket nurses for North and Central districts reported for tho month of Juno; — Number of babies on tho list, 605; babies breast-fed (including partly), 65; now cases for tho month (babies only), 22 ; now babies breast-fed (including partly), 16; visits paid to homes, 296; visits to Plunkot rooms, Stuart street —adults 275, babies 232; visits to Blanket rooms, Raslyn—adults 75, children 82; advice given to expectant mothers, 6; number of bottles of humanised milk sent out from the Taieri Dairy, 6257. The Blanket nurse for South Dunedin district reported for month of Juno as follows:—Number of babies on tho list, 338; babies breast-fed (including partly), 95; now oases for the month (babies only),’ 20; noiv cases breast-fed (including partly), 17; visits paid to homes, 258; visits to Blanket rooms, King Edward street—adults 160, babies 152; advice given to expectant mothers, 2. The Blanket nurse for Anderson’s Bay district and outstations reported as under for the month ended Juno 30: Number of babies on tho list, 214; babies brea-st-fed (including partly), 63; new cases for the mouth (babies 01113’), 9; now cases breast-fed (including partly), 8; visits paid to homes, 172; visits to Blanket rooms, Stuart street, from Anderson’s Bay district-adults 31, babies 23; visits ptud to Plunkot rooms, Port Chalmers—adults 19, babies 21; visits paid to Plunkot rooms, Mosgiel—adults. 23, babies 25. Tho followinig visits wore paid to outstations during tho month :— Mosgiel 5, Wingalui 1, Abbotsford 4, Green Island 4, Burnside 4, Port Chalmers 4, Sawyers Bay 4 Ilttvonaboumo 5. 9 The Blanket nurses reported that except for the prevalence of colds the general health of tho babies was good. It was reported that the annual meeting of the Dunedin branch would bo hold in tho Council Chambers on Thursday, July 31, at 4 p.m. Dr Herons will deliver an add-ess entitled “Some Thoughts on the Development and Future Activities of the Society.” A draft of tho annual renort was read and approved.
