YOUNG MAN’S TERRIBLE DEATH. CAUGHT IN MINE MACHINERY. Pmm Association—By Tsbntrsph—-Copyright. ' MELBOURNE, June 23. Carl Holtz, a son of the general manager of the Argus, was killed through becoming entangled in machinery at the Mount Lyell Mining Company’s works at Footscray, where he was employed as a commercial chemist. His clothing was caught in the belting, aud he was whirled around the shafting, receiving dreadful injuries. He died a few hours later. He was 22 years of age. THE NORTHERN TERRITORY. BISHOP FAVOURS COLOURED LABOUR. PERTH June 25. Bishop Trower, of Broome, after 14 years’ experience of the northern areas of Australia, declares emphatically for . the introduction of coloured labour. He urges a system of bringing indentured labourers from Southern India and suggests that the Indians, should be imported in family groups, with a proviso that the children shall be deported with their parents when their terra of indenture ends. TIMBER MILL DESTROYED BY FIRE. MELBOURNE, June 23. Garlick’s timber mill at Powelltown was completely destroyed by fire. The damage is estimated at £IO,OOO.
