ASHBURTON WINTER MEETING. (Fxom Otjb Special Repobtsb ) CHRISTCHURCH, Juno 21 Tho Ashburton meeting was concluded in fine but, wintry weather, and the track was sticky and holding. There was a fair attendance., and the card provided some interesting races. Prior to the steeplechase Whipcord was purchased by hir Charles Campbell, and in consequence the San Francisco gelding was coupled with M igerland. Paddy’s Hope was always prominent in the principal race, ana wan nil out at the finish, Sherlock was always m the lead or disputing it in tnc cross-country race, and won nicely. lnmrsio scored a long overdue win, ju Prompter got a bad run in the, straigh , otherwise the latter would have just about won. Wharfdale and Dancing Days again looked like having the chief sprint to themselves, but after leading to the straight they ran themselves out, and Racial just beat Prosperity, while Solforde finished a good third. ~ , , .Mi- P. D. M‘Nab did excellent wort at the barrier, and Mr A. Dickson, m the absence of Mr R. Aldworth, gate prompt and accurate decisions in the box. Woodrow bumped his rider off at the first fence, and Intolerance ran off. Sherlock opened up a big load, but had Tokomairiro with him at tho stand double, where Tigerland, Galway, and Paul Pry were close up. Tainui II came down at the first of* the double. Tokomairiro, Sh.erloek, and Tigerland were in close order alone- tho back, and then came Galway and °Paul Pry several lengths away, Galway was not jumping too well. Sherlock again took charge rounding the top, and, coming on, won ■ by three lengths from Tigerland, who beat Galway by four lengths. Tokomairiro was three lengths further back, and then came Paul Pry and Whipcord a long way away, and then still further back came Auroro and Blue Streak. Time, 4min 45sec. She wa s the first woman rider in a trotting race in or around Sydney. Chester broke when near tho winning post, and had to be content with second position. Later in the day she steered Chester into fourth place in the Farmers and Tradesmen’s Trot.
