DEATH AT FOOTBALL MATCH. ANOTHER PLAYER INJURED. (Per United Press Association.,’ AUCKLAND, June 22. William Scaffe, aged 37, a resident of Devonporf, died in hospital last night. Ho was standing on the side-line watching another game some time after his own finished when he collapsed. He diefl in the hospital without regaining consciousness. T. J. Gribble, aged about 21, a wellknown amateur hurdler, collided with another player while playing for King’s College Old Boys in the senior Rugby match against Newton and received a double fracture of the log. BOAT OVERTURNS. WORKMAN DROWNED. (Per United Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH. June 22. A drowning fatality Occurred at Ivarore on Saturday, A. W. Park, single, aged 23 years, losing his life in the Manawatu River. Deceased was the foreman of the party employed by the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board getting a wire across th© river, when a boat containing- him and a companion overturned. Despite the efforts of his fellow-workmen. Park was washed downstream. A search party of 25 was engaged to-day in dragging the river, but th'o body so far has not been, recovered. Great praise was bestowed by the board’s engineer on an employee named Steer, who made gallant efforts to save his companion. This is the third accident to members of the gang this week. J. Proctor, who was injured earlier in the week while untruoking polos, still lies in hospital in a dangerous condition. BOY’S LEG BROKEN. During the progress of the football on (he Mosgiol Recreation Ground on Saturday afternoon some boys were kicking a football on th© portion set aside for a hockey ground, and Tom Chesney (son of Mr Chesney, of Laing street, Mosgiel) fell and broke his leg. Ho was attended to by Dr Spedding, and removed from the ground to hia home.
