CONFERENCE IN WELLING- a TON. WIDOWS’ SUPERANNUATION SCHEME. (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 20 The superannuation question was discussed by the conference of the New Zealand Railway Officers’ Institute, and it was ,r decided to set up a special committee of members of the institute in Wellington to endeavour to evolve a superannuation scheme for the benefit of the widows and children of the /workers, the committee to report to the executive, which will havo " power to act. The conference reaffirmed the principle [ of full civil and political rights for State employees. When tho conference of the Railway Officers’ Institute resumed further consideration. was given to tho superannuation questions, - It was decided that a special committee of ; institute members be set up with the object of providing £1 or more nor week for widows, such pension to be in addition to tho superannuaten fund benefit, the committee' to report to the Executive Com- • mittce, which was given power to act. On tho motion of the Auckland and -Wol- ' lington branches it was decided unanimously •- to reaffirm the principle of full civil and political rights for Stale employees. The question of regrading of nositions in the service caused a lengthy discussion., lire ~,i Executive Committee was charged with ' having been lax in not remedying a long- . standing grievance. Eventually it was decided that any instance of necessity for regrading the position should be brought under tho notice of the Executive Commit- ‘ tee and thoroughly investigated. It was' ’ > decided that special attention be given to v tho claims of Frankton Junction in that ' respect. It was also contended that some foremen and inspectors were being illegally placed by the department in their wrong grades in D 3 classification list. It was agreed that the names of such officers . should appear in tho grades to which their, salaries applied. The following remit from the Wellington branch was agreed to: “That it be representod to the department in connection with tho employment of female clerks that equal C pay should bo given in the railway service , t . for equal output irrespective of the sex of - the employee.” ■ ./
