THE IRISH BOUNDARY
MR JUSTICE FEETHAMS APPOINTMENT. LONDON, June 5. In the House of Commons to-day Mr Ramsay MacDonald anounced that with the full approval of the South African Government Mr Justice Feetham had accepted the chairmanship of the Irish boundary commission. He would leave for England next week. CAPETOWN. June 6. Mr Justice Feetham’s appointment as chairman of the Irish Boundary Commission is regarded as a compliment to South Africa. It is the result of a request by Mr Ramsay MacDonald to Mr Smuts. The British Prime Minister expressed the view that Mr Justice Feetham’s work as chairman of the sub-commission on decentralisation in India had shown his high qualifications for the difficult task. Mr Smuts willingly assented, expressing the hope that the commission would find a moans of overcoming this last great obstacle to an Irish settlement. Mr MacDonald cabled the grateful thanks of his Majesty’s Government for the action the Union Government had taken.
