At the Wimbledon ladies’ international lawn tennis tourney Britain beat America., winning .the first four of seven matches. Miss M’Kane beat Miss Wills, 6—2, 6—2, being superior in all departments.—Reuter. HINTS TO SPECTATORS. WHEN NOT 'lO APPLAUD. LONDON, June 19. (Received Juno 20, at 8.15 p.m.) The secretary of the Lawn Tennis Association, in an official letter to the press, says that owing to the increased popularity of lawn tennis and the consequent large attendances at tournaments a serious difficulty has arisen in regard to applause. It is most disconcerting and unnerving for players to hear applause at the wrong time. In the interests of the game he appeals to spectators not to applaud double faults and rallies in which the ball hits the top of the net and falls over in an untakoablo position. Finally, he asks them not to confine applause to one competitor.—Reuter,
