THE FANCIERS’ CLUB SHOW.
TO TJIR EDITOR. Sir, —1 hope you will allow me (o express my opinion of the judging of bulldogs at tbe Dunedin Fanciers' Club Show last week. I am an old breeder of bulldogs, and am in a position to know when dogs are properly placed. In ibe. first place the dog that received tbe special prize! for the best dog of the breed had a very long straight back, button ears, long face (without any expression), and was too high on the leg and in no condition. The dog placed second bad a splendid skull, true rose. care, a very short back, splendid body and. roach, and was in splendid condition, and it would be very hard to find fault with hinn In the puppy class the pups that received the, two first prizes were very coarse hi the cars, which had not the correct carriage, were poor m body, and too high on the leg, and their tails were far too long. In fact, one had a tail so long that it almost reached the ground. This would have jnstilied the judge in ordering it out of the show ring. It is important in judging any breed that the dog's should be Judged to the standard, and tlinl. the breed should be thoroughly understood, so that, an exhibitor may know just where one dog is better than another. —I am, cto., Wm. Thompson. Richmond street. June 20.
