'From Ocs Own UonneypoNDEirr.) LONDON, Mav B. The annual meeting in London of the Melanesian Mission will be held at tho Church House on Juno 24, when it is hoped that (he Venerable Archdeacon 11. W. Williams (Waiapu) will be one of the Speakers. Dr P. Manson-Baker, D. 5.0., has promised to speak on the need of medical work in tho Islands. Mr Edward Bourne, who has lately been appointed secretary for tlte Melanes-an Mission in New Zealand, was at one time a member of the Lichfield Lav Brotherhood. Ho joined the Menanesian Mission in 1903, and on his subsequent return to England he was office secretary to the mission at tho Church House for a, time. -Since the .war Mr Bourne has 'been working for an Anglican school iu Haifa, near Mount Carmel, in connection with the Jerusalem and the East Mission. This school, unfortunately, had to be closed for the present owing to hick of funds. Mr R. I. Shearfl, St. Augustine's -College, Canterbury, who is one of the volunteers for the Melanesian Mission, and intends going out to the diocese after serving two rears at Brigbouse, was ordained deacon on Mid-Lent Sunday bv the Bishop of Wakefield. He is now curate- of Brjghonse, Yorks. Tho Rev. W. C. O'Ferrall will open a sale of work n.t East Bnrnol on May 31 ia aid of the Melanesian Mission. On this occasion a play entitled “The- Amber Gate” will be performed by Girl Guides ' and Brownies. The sale of work which was held at Croydon in March resulted in a- sum of £lO being raised for the mission funds. Miss Coombe is still actively addressing; meetings in connection with Melanesia in’ different parts of the country. This month she is speaking on three days at the leading centres in the Thames Valley district. Preachers who are making the Melanesian Mission their subject at various churches include the Rev. R. B. Roberts, whose next fixture is at Leamington, the Res'. R. M. Faithful! Davies; also at Leamington, ’ and the Rev. W. C. o‘F“rrall, at Horsell (Woking), and Sherborne.
