(Received Juno 10, at 10.50 p.m.) The Federal Cabinet considered proposals for taxation reform, which it is estimated would save the taxpayers £1,838,035 in the next financial year. NAVAL DESERTERS SENTENCED. SYDNEY, June 10. (Received June 10, at 10.15 p.m.) Three deserters from H.M.S. Hood were sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment on charges of stealing. It was stated that the naval authorities would deal with them after they had served their sentences. A CHARGE WITHDRAWN. SYDNEY, June 10. (Received June 10, at 10.15 p.m.) Tire charge against Jacob Johnson has been withdrawn, the Crown Counsel intimating that the strike was almost over and that the action was being withdrawn in the interests of Industrial poa^e. Arising out of the recent shipping disputes Jacob Johnson, assistant secretary of the Seamen’s Union, was charged with persuading a seaman on the steamer Ch.illagoe to commit breaches of the agreement with the owners of the steamer. THE POST OFFICE ROBBERY. SYDNEY,. June 10. (Received June 10, at 10.15 p.m.) George Gardiner has been remanded till June 20 on a charge of stealing £BOO, the property of the Postmaster-General, (lardiner was a clerk in the Postal Department. By a smart ruse the Postal Department in Sydney was recently robbed of £BOO. A man who was apparently acquainted with the routine of the department obtained a pay cheque from the engineers’ department. Ho allegedly forged the signature of the cashier and got the cheque countersigned by another official without arousing suspicion. He then cashed it and disappeared.
