The impression in some parts of America that Now Zealand is part of Australia, or at most is hut a week-end trin from Sydney, is indicated by accounts in the American press of the arrival of Mr J. Rolph (Mayor of San Francisco) and Mrs Rolph at Wellington recently. One San Francisco'paper of April 15 recorded the arrival of Mr Rolph at Wellington in these startling terms: “Horns tooted, kangaroos cavorted, and enough serpentine to encircle the City Hall five and a-quarter times was used when Mayor and Mrs Rolph arrived in Wellington, New Zealand, yesterday, a cablegram made public to-day by the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, on whose boat Tahiti they sailed, seems to indicate.” It is recalled by the Dominion that Mr and Mrs Rolph were accorded a civic reception during their two days’ stay in Wellington.
