TORRENTIAL RAINS.

BIG RISE IN KAIHU RIVER. RECORD FLOOD EXPECTED. (Per United Press Association.) DARGAVILLE, May 26. The district was visited by another storm. High wind accompanied by rain, set in about 1 o’clock this morning, and shortly after 9 o’clock developed into the same torrential rain which made the Kaihu River the cause, of much damage last week-end. The rise was rapid. At 10 o’clock tho water in tho river was higher in many up-line places than at (he previous flood, and was still rising. Tho morning train for Donnelly’s Crossing returned at 10.30, having boon unable to get beyond Maripu, about 15 miles out. It ig still raining heavily, and a record flood is expected as far as the river is concerned; but how the business portion of the town will faro depends on tho height of tho tide. THE WAJHOU RIVER. MANY FARMS INUNDATED. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 26. Tho Star's To Aroha correspondent slates that tho Waihou River has overflowed, and many farms are covered with water. A shop in tho Gordon district, the Shaftesbury bridge and its approach are submerged. At Mungaiti all tho low farms are, flooded. The river has risen 7ft since Friday, and is still rising.
