The Punjab Government is making another attempt to meet the legitimate grievances of the Sikh community by appointing a committee, under the presidency of General vSir William Birdwood, Commander-in-Chief of the Northern Command, to report on the principles upon which Sikh shrine legislation should be undertaken, and the best means to deal with the question of the possession of swords by S'khs as religious symbols, though the possession of a sword without a license in the case of other Indian communities is prohibited.—Reuter.
