NEWCASTLE OFFICE RE-OPENED. LONG-STANDING DISPUTE SETTLED. Preu A««oci**ion —By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, April 1. (Received April 1, at 8 p.m.) The dispute which led to the closing of the American Consulate at Ncweastle-on-Tyne in 1922 has been settled, and new exequaturs are being issued to consuls throughout the Empire.—A. and N'.Z. Cable. Following on a notice which %vas posted oo the American Consulate at Newcastle-on-Tyne on August 31, 1922, the exequaturs of Messrs R.. M. Brooks and F. C. Slater were withdrawn in January, 1923, on the ground that they had abused their official positions to the disadvantage df British interests. A specific, charge was that they refused to visa passports for British passengers to America on the most trivial pretexts, unless the passengers agreed to travel by American liners. As a result the United States closed the consulate, Mr Brooks being transferred to Dresden and Mr Mater to
