GERMAN ELECTIONS
THE MONARCHICAL ISSUE. PREPARING PARTY PROGRAMMES. PreM Association —By Telegraph—Copyrlynl LONDON, March 61. Interest is deepening in the forthcoming elections in Germany and France. The latter have been fixed for May 11, a week later than the German. It is stated that this date was deliberately chosen as it is expected that reactionary successes in Germany will influence the French electors in M- Poincare's favour. It is significant in this connection that the programme of the German People's Party was drawn up at a meeting at Hanover, presided over by Dr Stresemann, who declared that the party would fight under the old black, white, and red colours. He hopes for the restoration of German pdwer and greatness under a democratic monarchy. It is noteworthy that while Dr Stresemann is announcing his support of a monarchial programme, |he Chancellor, i)r Marx, speaking at Hanover, declared that the victory of Ah© Chauvinistic Nationalist movement at the elections would ruin Germany.—Reuter. The following are the leadmg German political parties: National People’s Partyt—Pan-Ger mans and Conservatives, openly monarchist and militarist, known as the Nationalists^ Christian People’s Party.—The middleclass, Roman Catholic, moderate conservatives, known as the Catholics. German People’s Party.—Great industrialists, headed by Herr Stinnes. Dr Stresemann was formerly their leader. Social Democratic Country.—Known as the Socialists; in favour of gradual socialisation, separation of Church and State.
