PRE-WAR RATES COMPARED ENGLISH CRITICISM. (From Ocr Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, April 1. “We hardly like to mention it, but while our Australian and New Zealand friends are so anxious to let everyone know that they are ‘down and out’ on the beef industry, they are dumb on mutton and lamb, on which they appear to be doing quite well, due, the trade is convinced, to the pooling operations introduced ic both countries” says the Meat Trade Journal (London). “The farmer has troubles of his own, more than enough, and we are sorry lor him. but the fairy tale that he it now getting only pre-war rates while the consumer has to pay exorbitant prices should be put away until next pantomime season. Though the criticism may not be relished, the figures associated with it are interesting. BEEF MIDDLE PRICES. 1914. 1924. P.o. s. d. s. d. Inc.
