THE OCEAH BEACH. VO XKB BDITOB. Sir, —Dunedin people are strangely apathetic in respect to improvements to tho city pleasure grounds. At St. Clair, the City Corporation has put up a few swings and slides, but the surroundings arc very rough. The beach and the baths are splendid, tout there is no place in which for the hundreds who seek a bathe on sunny days can dress.. What mostly surprises mo is the lack of attention paid to the St. Kilda end of tho beach. There wo have several rubbish tips, one sot of swings on which one swing only is rigged up at tho present time, a few broken-down" seats and several bathing sheds, tho unsanitary condition of which is such that thev are rarely used. On a 'holiday at St. Hilda, thousands of the city ratepayers from South iDunedin and thereabouts ilock to St. Hilda Beach. How much more enjoyable it would bo if a few pounds were spent in improvements! Tho , surf is safe only for strong swimmers, and it would not cost a groat deal to construct { an open air bath at St. Hilda. If tho such*** of the St. Clair baths is any criterion, I am - sure that baths at St. Kilda would pay ftor themselves, as they would be much tndro accessible than the St. Clair baths. —I am,., etc- Chatham. Dunedin, April 1.
