WOMAN’S MAD ACT

ATTEMPT TO DROWN MOTHER. Pn» A*s««iatloa —By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, March 29. The Daily Chronicle’s Paris correspondent states that a few nights ago Lucien Negrout, living by the riverside at Hry-Sur-Marne, heard repeated cries of “save me!’’ Ncgrout, accompanied by his wile, took a boat, and he saw two women struggling in the water. Both were rescued and sent to a hospital. The younger woman, who is now m custody, confessed that fearing dishonour, as she was guilty of the misappropriation of funds, she took her aged blind, deai, and mute mother out in the boat intending to drown her and then commit suicide herself. She carried out her purpose to the extent of pushing her mother overboard and jumping into the water herself in midstream, but could not help shouting “Save me!" hence the rescue.— A. and N.Z. Cable.
