SINGAPORE ABANDONED
FINAL DECISION TAKEN. KEEN OPPOSITION CERTAIN Preou Association — By Telegraph—Copyrifat LONDON, March 17. (Received March 18, at 5.5 p.m.) The Daily Telegraph’s ' Parliamentary correspondent sa.ys that Cabinet has taken a final decision regarding Singapore, so Lord Chelmsford (hirst Lord of the Admiralty) and Mr C. G. Ammon (Parliamentary Undcr-Sccrctary to the Admiralty) will announce on Tuesday that the scheme has been abandoned. They will disclose the communications on the subject which have been received from the dominion governments. Australia and New Zealand, as might be expected, declare themselves whole-heartedly in favour of going on with the work. Canada is lukewarm, and South Africa is against the enterprise. The statement will show that the present facilities will be maintained at Singapore, and the oil storage facilities will he considerably developed, necessitating provision of £200,000 in the new Estimates. The Opposition intends to attack the Government’s decision with great vigour. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
