ARRIVAL OF THE ALHAMBRA with the JANUARY MAILS FROM EUROPE. GENERAL SUMMARY. LONDON, 26th Jan. Tho Prii iccss of Wales was safely but unexpectedly confined of a son on the Bth of January. Tho mother and tho child are doing well. A petition has boon filed in the Divorce Court against Lord Palmerston for adultery. The damages are laid at L 20,000. Distress in tho cotton manufacturing districts is largely increasing. Ileenan’a defeat by King causes great excitement in America. 'The English Insurance companies decline insuring the life ot the Empress Eugenie for LBO.OOO. AMERICA. The Confederates have made aggressive movements in Shenondah Valley, and achieved success. They have also threatened Petersburg and Winchester. At Chattanoya, affairs remain quiet. Tho siege of Charleston is still in progress. Several Confederate iron-clads are nearly ready in tho harbour, and they are intended to attack the Federal fleet. A resolution has been passed by the .Federal Senate to call out one million of volunteers for ninety days. They are to be commanded by General Grant. Mr Lincoln has been nominated for the Presidency by both branches of the Pennsylvania Legislature.
