MELTING OF COMMITTED The monthly meeting of the cominilbv. of the Otago A. and P. Society was held in the board room, Crawford street, on Thursday morning, tnere hoini: present the president (Mr 1). Andrew). Sir John Roberts, Messrs G. Black. 11. Turner. J Gow J W Blair, A. Mackav, J. Maeandrew, R. A. S. Canlrell. 11. C. Campbell, and S. Bowman. The President reported that, tho secretary (Mr K. .F. Duthic) was absent in Wellington attending meetings of the Royal | Agricultural Society and the Now Zealand j Council of Agriculture. _ I The President, before proceeding with the business of the meeting, feelincly referred ! to tho deaths of Messrs G. W. Safe- and j C. Eraser, and stated that the. executive had j sent letters of sympathy to the respective | families. He now wished to refer to the I death of Mr R. A. Swing, who had been | a member of the committee for many years ] and who had always taken a keen interest j in the society's operations, and moved — j '"Thai tins mreting regrets the death of j Mr I{. Ewing. and extends its sincere . sympathy with his wife and family in their I sad bereavement: that this meeting also j place on record its high appreciation of the j valuable services h" had rendered to the J society during the many years he had been ; a member of the committee." The motion i was carried in the usual manner, members I standing. EXECUTIVE'S REPORT. 'The executive submitted the following re- \ port.:— j (1) That the annual Ram and Ewe Fair I bo held at Burnside on Thursday, March 27, ana only sheep registered in the flock books be offered for sale. This dale has ; been fixed with the approval of the Stock • and Station Agents' Association. i (2) That, (he Winter Show be held on ! June 3 to June 6 (inclusive), the same week i r.s the Dunetlin Jockey Club's Winter race j meeting. j (3) That the report, submitted at the last j meeting dealing wiin the estimated cost of : connecting Tahuna Park by rail and making the necessary alterations and improvements was considered at a joint meeting of representatives of the subscribers and the society. After the. matter had been ; fully discussed it was recommended that all ' the proposals submitted should stand over ; in the meantime and no large expenditure > bo incurred until the committee obtained : a full reDort as to the suitability of utilis- i ing the Logan's Point ns a, showground. j (A) That a sub-committee be appointed to j give effect to the previous recommenda- I tion and to report fully as to the whole j position, ascertaining the area of land . available, the nature of the tenure, the i position of the present railway connection, j and also the proposed extension of the line. ; The report was adopted. j FINANCE. ' Accounts amounting to £531 6s were ] passed, lor payment - . _ ■ | The secretary submitted a report as to the appeal fund, which was approved A comparative statement of receipts and expenditure was submitted, and it was recommended that any expenses incurred in connection with the appeal in printing. postage, etc., be charged to general expenses, and the interest that has been received for money deposited be added to tho appeal. It was also resolved that various amounts be written off as submitted by the secretary. The Royal Agricultural Society's application for financial assistance was considered, and the committee recommended that the society agree to the contribution of 2 per cent, on its subscriptions conditionally that other metropolitan societies subscribe on a similar basis. Mr Turner moved the adoption of the report, which was seconded by Mr Black, and carried. CORRESPONDENCE. A large amount of correspondence was to hand from the Royal Agricultural Societj with reference to many matters in connection with the first show, which is to be held in Palmerston North early in November next, and it was decided to leave over consideration until after Mr Duthie's return from tlie conference now being held. A combined circular letter from the presidents of the Southland A. and P. Association and the Otago A and P. Society to the'stock breeders in the various sections in both provinces requesting them to become members of the Royal Agricultural Society was approved. The matter ot appointment of a delegate to conjererice in regard to tne federation of A. and P. Associations, to be held in Christchurch on March 20, was referred to the executive. A lengthy report on the resolutions (wiiich covered a wide range of subjects of interest to A. and P. Associations) passed at the annual conference of the New Zealand Council of Agriculture was to hand, and it was decided to leave over until a future meeting the matter of remits for the next conference, which is to be held in July. The president -was appointed to represent the society at a conference of societies, sports bodies, etc., called by the directors of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition Company for the purpose of getting the various societies to endeavour to have the annual competitions held in Dunedin during tho time the Exhibition is open. . , Various applications for space at the forthcoming Winter Show were »eferred to the Space Committee. It was decided to arrange a conference of all firms in Crawford street and all societies, etc., making use of His Majesty s Theatre to urge upon the City Council the necessity of completing the permanent paving of Crawford street as far as Police street before the winter sols in.
