Carandaris, continuing in office after a vote of confidence by 233 votes to 106 secured the defeat of a Republican motion for the immediate removal of the dynasty, one-fifth of the Republicans withdrawing from the Chamber without voting. A resolution proclaiming a plebiscite to determine the constitution was carried. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
