A DARING AUSTRALIAN. r LONDON, February 12.- ’ (Major Reid Kellett, of Queensland, has f returned from his second trip to Peru ■where he has bought one copper mine and three silver and lead mines, situated 5 far from railways, for the Espano Coin--5 pany of Britain. On his first trip, beginning at Puria, ] Major Kellett flew across the Andes, travelling 200 m’les in 105 minutes. He landed in the old Inca .city ot ■ Chachapayas, and astounded the natives. Major Kellett states that he was using light crashing mills, invented by Mr Maxwell M’Ginnis, of Sydney. These were transported by mules over the mountains. Major Kellett thinks that the M’Ginnis patent will enable scores of disused mines in out-of-the-way parts of Pern to ba opened for profitable working by employing the descendants of the Incas. ? The old ‘ Inca irrigation schemes, said H I (Major Kellett, could teach Australia lea-. . i sons in water conservation. J Major Reid Kellett made a previous 1 visit to Peru less than a year ago, when 1 he investigated the mineral possibilities of the country.
