INCREASE IN EXPORTS. LAST MONTH'S FIGURES. 7 (Per Ovxtkd Press Association.! WELLINGTON, February 27. The figures made- available by the Minister of Customs (the Hon. W. Downie Stewart) show chat the value of the exports from New Zealand during January, 1924. amounted to £7,064,644. as against £3.262,891 for the corresponding month of last vear. The increase in the value of ox-ports was almost wholly in butter, cheese, and wool. It is possible that there was less tonnage available in January last year than in January of this year, which would account for,’the great difference in the value of the exports. For instance. 122,921 bales of wool were exported last month, as against 57.110 in January, 1923. Butter and cheese exports for January, 1924, amounted to 524.967 cwt. as compared with 180.615 cwt in January, 1923. The value of the exports for January was as follows, the figures for the corresponding month of last year being shown in parentheses;— Butter, Cheese, £1,631,770 (£495.735). Wool, £2,672,174 (£920.4321. Frozen lamb, £569.112 (£479,912). Frozen mutton, £102,172 (£132.278). Other items. £657.530 (£600,560).
