SHEEP STEALING.

FARM MANAGER FOUND GUILTY. REMANDED FOR SENTENCE. ‘ (Per United Press Association.) NAPIER, February 27. Robert M'Gregcr, farm manager, was | found guilty at the Supreme Court to-day, after two days’ hearing, on a charge of stealing 115 sheep valued at £172 10s, the ' property of Walter Charles Ensor, farmer of Mangatutu. The evidence showed that Ensor owned 13,000 acres (Mangatutu), and ran about 10,000 sheep. The accused was part owner of a farm on the Puket-itiri road (Little Bush), and also managed a property of 18,000 acres (Hawkeston), situated between Ensor’s property and that in which, the accused was interested. i ; The prosecution suggested that it was across Hawkestone that the accused drove the sheep from Ensor’s place to his own. Ensor pnt 250'sheep in a certain paddock, and noticing the number seemed to decrease, he put in a further 35. He later 1 found that 150 had disappeared, and soma I of these he saw on the accused’s property. On making a visit there a detective visited Hawkestone and ordered muster, and among the sheep were 115 two-tooth ewes belonging to Ensor, with an added earmark. ;?
