Pum Aitociation —By Telegreph —Copyritf.it TOKIO, February 26. ■ Mobs of sufferers of losses by fire, who ; are demanding that the Government I should force the insurance companies to pay a tenth of their earthquake losses, • spent the night in the grounds of the resi |i dence of the Minister of Finance, demanding that he should pledge the Treasury to advance an eighty-million loan to the insurance comparees at Sj per cent, interest. The Minister remained bbdurate. It Is reported that he quarrelled with his colleagues at a recent meeting of Cabinet over the impossibility of granting a loan at such a low rate of interest. “Insurance” gatherings are held daily throughout the city, and heated speeches are being made, so that the mobs are threatening to get out of hand and proceed to direct action. Heavy guards of police have been placed at the Premier's and other Ministers’ residences.—Sydney Sun Cable.
