CORRUPTION IN AMERICA

LAND CRAB ALLEGED. A RAILWAY COMPANY’S AFFAIRS. Prau Association —By Telegraph—Copyright WASHINGTON, February 26. President Coolidge is asking Congress to investigate a great land grab, going back 60 years, when the United states Government granted to the then proposed Northern Pacific Railway Company 40,000,000 acres. The inquiry is to determine whether the company is entitled to retain the 4,000,000 acres still unsold. The investigation will not question the wisdom of the grant, but it is alleged that there has been mampulat’.on by the company of millions of acres through turning large portions back on the Government for choice lands as a substitute, the total received by the company to date from land sales is £27,000,000, while - the cost of constructing the railway was only £14,000,000. —Sydney Sun Cable.
