15-INCH GOLF TEE.

( MAJOR GILLIES’S PINNACLES. ' A topic which has set the golfing world talking in recent months was revived at Home last month by the height of the tees used by Major H. D. Gillies, playing at Rye, in the tournament between the Oxford and Cambridge Societies. Major Gillies, according to whether the wind was against or behind him, used tees of three inches, five inches, nine inches, and at one hole 15 inches. Over a piece of rounded stick, which was fitted with a sharp nail at one end to plunge into the ground, he had drawn a piece of stiff rubber tubing, and by moving the tubing np and down the stick he was able to graduate it to the height of the tee he desired. The mouth of the tubing made an excellent Ho for the ball. Off his 15-inch pinnacle he got a magnificent drive.
