(Peb United Pbess Association.) AUCKLAND, February 26. Mr Hunt, S.M., gave judgment in favour of the Auckland Rugby League against the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation (Ltd.) for £52 10s on an interim insurance policy covering senior footballers playing under the League’s jurisdiction. Provision was made in an agreement for substitute players in a letter from the company, but no mention was made of this in the policy. Notification of substitutes playing was to bo. made on the Monday following the matches. The' company maintained that the notices were not sent so promptly; that the stamp on two notifications appeared to bear out this statement; but the letter of acknowledgment, the magistrate pointed ..out. indicated that the stamp was put on the day after the notification was received. Counsel for the company then decided to proceed no further with the case. WANGANUI, February 26. A young man named Roland Wentworth Baddeley was charged at the Court this morning with obtaining a pair of fiieldglasses from Henry G. Drew by means of a valueless cheque, from Martin Vernon the sum of £2 10s, and from Herbert Burnett the sum of £5. He also incurred debts of £l2O to the Egmont Racing Club by means of valueless cheques. The evidence showed that Baddeley represented himself as a visitor to Ilawera for the races, and applied for and obtained a commission book in exchange for a cheque on an Auckland bank. The accused pleaded guilty to all charges. He was committed to the Supreme Court to-morrow for sentence. At to-night’s meeting of the Borough Council an offer was received from the Wanganui Trotting Club to sell its course to the borough for use as a recreation ground. As the result of a misjudged landing, an Avro piloted by a refresher-course officer struck the ground suddenly at Bockburn this morning, and the undercarriage was torn from the machine. It will take a week to repair it. At the Supreme Court Mar Augusta King, a domestic servant at North Loburn, was awarded £SO damages in an action for slander against her former employer. Jjis. H. Some suggest that it will be fixed at 6s per bushel. and others at 7s, as the present price (5g M) oulv cleared expenses. The Hon. W. Nosworthy will vttend the conference.
