MASTER PAINTERS.
CONFERENCE IN NELSON. (Peb United Phess Association.) NELSON, February 21. Among the resolutions passed by the Master Painters, Decorators, and Signwriters’ Federation were the following: “That the municipal authorities be urged to appoint practical painters as inspectors of the interiors of buildings.” ‘That the federation protests against the high rates charged by companies for accident insurance in view of the small percentage of claims made in comparison with the premiums paid.” “Til at the Minister of Customs be asked if it is possible to prohibit the importation of scrim that is not guaranteed free from grease.” “That instructions be given to the incoming executive to urge on the Government (he desirability of institutin'*- some form of registration similar to that in the plumbing trade, compelling all employers and employees in the painting, panerhamriug. and decorating trade to be registered.” “That instruction be given to the incoming executive to endeavour to gain the cooperation of other building trades to bring about regulations governing the -injustices in the calling of tenders and the letting of work.” “That the federation enter a protest against the Act compelling employers to pay apprentices during their absence on military training.” The follow ing new officers were elected : —President, Mr P. Birch ; vice-presidents, Messrs Thomas Bailey and F. Brinsden : hon. secretary, Mr H. Edgar Forrest: hon. treasurer. Mr James Tapper; committee— Messrs A. Penny. C. C. Kenkin, W. J. Pearce. J. Ovenden; bon. auditor, Mr G. W. Minten. The delegates went for a motor trip around tho country, and they will finish up with a smoko concert this evening.
