ENGINEER’S REPORT.
Mr B. B. Couston, engineer Taieri County Council, reports as follows for the month of February:— . _ . , , , „ North and Bast Taien.—The metal broken by Messrs Rudd Bros. has been spread on the Flagstaff road, M'Ewan’a Hut read has been repaired, And the Oii-ain Hill road and Wingatui road surfaced. Two water openings have been inserted on Milner’s road. The surfacemen are now employed on the Long Ridge road. The gravel on Dukes road has been blinded with clay, the washout on Riverside road reinstated, and the silt graded from the formation. Centre road has been, gravelled from Milner’s pit the Gladfield road from the Silverstream. Tenders have been called for removing gravel from the low reaches of the Silverstream and delivering same on Circular road, East Taieri. Kaikoxai and Otokia. —Clruxcli Hill xo«ul and Kaikorai Valley road have been repaired with metal, and the Main South road blinded with clay. The old Brighton road, M'Laren’s Gully road, and Christie's Gully road; have been surfaced. The contract for delivery of stone for the protection of approach to Marshall’s bridge, on the Taieri Mouth road, has been completed. Outram and Maungatua.—The OutramAllanton road has been gravelled from the Taieri River, and the Outram-Berwick and Otokia-Maungatua roads have, been gravelled from the creeks along the foothills. Two bridges on the Outram-Hindou road have been repaired, and a water opening on Patrick’s road renewed. The quarry squad have been employed all the month quarrying and delivering metal on the Where Hill. Good progress has been made with the metal contract on Mill Creek road, Berwick, a quantity of 400 tons having been delivered to date. The ford at King’s has been repaired. Deep Stream and Strath-Taieri. —The surfacing of road from Pukerangi to Stewart’s homestead has been, completed, and a start made with the formation of Flamanck’a road. This road requires six small culverts, and the settlers have offered to provide teams for the work. A box culvert has been inserted at the junction of Centre road and Gladbrook road, and one also at Cottesbrook and the road graded and gravelled. The formation of Sneddan’s road has been completed. Mr Sheddan supplying teams free of cost. The deck of the bridge on the Stoker road has been repaired, and the stone wall at oig Ross Creek reinstated. A start has been made clearing the debris from the washout at Norman’s culvert in order to ascertain the nature of the foundation. When this has been .determined plans will be submitted to the Public Works Department and the work proceeded with, REPORTS. Bull Creek bridge is erected in line ot the continuation of Poplar road. There is the usual river reserve on each side of Bull Creek and Poplar road ends at the Eastern Reserve. There is no road in continuation of Poplar road, between Bull Creek and'tho lake outlet channel. The bridge is very old and dilapidated, and has not been recognised during my term of office as belonging to the County council. I recommend regarding Mr Graham’s application for widening Sweetwater track to nine or 10 feet that tho council undertake to carry out the work to the extent of £SO, working from the homestead towards section 4, provided Mr Graham supplies teams at county rate and is satisfied with that amount of formation. I do not favour Mr Marshall’s application to lead water along the channel of road, as requested in his letter to the council.
