UNORTHODOX CHURCH SERVICE.
LIBRETTO INSTEAD OF LESSONS. WAGNERIAN OPERA FOR HYMNS. Inu Association —By Tek'craph—Copymi. LONDON, February 1. The Rev. Simon Jones, minister of Hige’s Pavement Unitarian Church, Nottingham, is substituting Wagnerian opera for° orthodox evening service. He says religion is presented in too many narrow wavs. “I want to enlist all that is best in ‘‘music, poetry, ami literature in the service of God. Accordingly, ‘Tannhauser,' ‘Lohengrin,’ and ‘Parsifal’ will he sung on successive Sundays without and instead of the lessons tho librettos will bo read.” He added: “The rightness or wrongness of the new system will depend upon whether the operas are performances or acts of worship.”— Sydney Sun Cable.
