TREATY OF LAUSANNE
RATIFICATION DOUBTFUL. FRANCE AND ITALY DISSATISFIED. Pt«m Association—By Telegraph—Copyright , LONDON, January 11. (Received Jan. 11, at 9.5 p.m.) The Daily Telegraph’s diplomatic correspondent gathers that the ratification of the Lausanne Treaty by the three principal Allied Powers is problematical. France’s attitude has stiffened, and she will require stringent guarantees from the Turks regarding the Ottoman debt and the regime for French schools. A similar spirit is asserting itself in Italy, where Signor Mussolini is insisting on the fulfilment of the pledges regarding the interests of Italian nationals. Britain awaits reports from the Levant concerning the effect of Turkish policy and administration on British interests. In the meantime the new British diplomatic representative to Turkey will be described as such and not as an ambassador or a Minister.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
