GREAT TIDAL WAVE

The Daily Mail states that an immense. tidal wave over a stretch of more than 6po miles caused extensive, damage on the Irish and French coasts. A wall of Atlantic waters crashed on to the small Brittany ports, sinking the fishing vessels and flooding the houses. It ■wrecked buildings on the Biarritz promenade, and flooded -a large tract of low-lying land near Bordeaux, interrupting the railway traffic. The wave was accompanied by an earthquake. At La Rochelle houses collapsed and furniture was washed away. The wave lifted the boats at Bayonne on to the quays. ‘ Sis' fishermen of La Vendee are missing. It is believed that they were drowned. The yacht lolanthe, at Kingstown (Dublin),' was swept from her moorings in the harbour and smashed to pieces. 0 Large motor boats were carried up Among the houses at Seaton (a Devonshire watering place). A boat rescued six naval officers from a submerged taxi cab, which suddenly became an island.—Sydney Sim Cable.
