CITY POLICE COURT.
Frida r, Janttart 11. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) Drunkenness.—A statutory first offender was fined £1 Is for drunkenness. Charge of Indecent Assault.—John William Benjamin Campbell was charged with having indecently assaulted a male at St. Kilda. —Sergeant M'Entee, who said that the accused was arrested only on Thursday night, asked for a remand for a week The police were not prepared to go on with the case in the meantime.—The accused was remanded till January 18. Incest Charge.—William Patrick Sheehan was charged with having committed incest with his daughter.—Mr Fairmaid appeared for the accused on behalf of Mr Hanlon.--Detective Bsor, in asking for a remand, stated that the cose was a very serious one, and that there would also be charges of indecent assault on two girls aged 12 and 14 years respectively. He would oppose Mr ’ Fairmaici’s application for bail as the accused had threatened violence against the girls concerned, and there was reason to believe he would carry out his threat if he were allowed his liberty.—Mr Fairmaid said that it would be hard on the accused’s family if bail were not allowed .as accused bad five children.—Detective Beer replied that four of the children were, concerned in the case.—The magistrate said that under the circumstances he could not grant bail. Accused would be remanded until Wednesday next. By-law Cases.—Thomas Collins was fined 10s (costs 7s) for allowing a horse to wander. ■ For driving a motor ear on the wrong side of the road, Mary Elisabeth Cooper was fined 10s (costs 7s).r George Johnston Clark was fined 5s (costs 7s) for leaving his .motor car in Jackson street, St. Kilda, •without lights.
