Anderson) yesterday visited South Westland as far as HariharL He received a’ deputation of settlers who urged the reconsideration of the proposed motor lorry traffic. It was pointed out that tho heavy tax imposed by the Publio Works Department, which is four times heavier than the county council -tax, meant a heavy impost on tho goods carried. The Minister promised consideration of this and other matters brought forward. At Ross the Minister promised to obtain a report in connection with the Ross storm channel repairs and suggested a £ for £ subsidy for a traffic bridge to tire Ross Lime Works. At Hokitika he gave favourable attention to a request for the continuance of the excursion rates and services until the closing of the Hokitika Exhibition, which he considered were fully warranted. He also promised to send an officer of the Geological Department to inquire and report on the advisability of seeking deep level alluvial drifts at Kumara and elsewhere.
