EMPIRE EXHIBITION
THE WEMBLEY PAGEANT. PROPOSAL SHARPLY CRITICISED. Pres a Association —By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, January 9. Replying to criticisms of what is termed the needless expense incurred for the Wembley pageant which , it is contended, should be organised by voluntary effort, and also to a suggestion that Parliament may not pass the vote for expenses which amounts to £260,000, and also to complaints that the Overseas Trade Department is organising the spectacle in a hole-and-ccrner fashion an official statement explains that the Admiralty, the War Office, and Overseas Trade representatives are responsible for the arrangements. The personnel will consist of large numbers from the different services, including cavalry and boy scouts, and voluntary performers. It is intended to give the dominions opportunity to display striking incidents and scenes of everyday life in their lands. It is anticipated that the fate money will fully cover the cost, he Government is retaining control because the assistance of the army and navy services and the co-operation of the 'dominions is essential to success. —Sydney Sun Cable.
