TOKOMAIRIRO RIVER BOARD.

In the early days the residents of the Tokomairiro Plain did not suffer .1 great deal through floods in the river, but in the course of time the silting up of the bed, particularly in the south branch, and the growth of vegetation on the banks impeded the flow of the water to such an extent that the risk of flooding became very serious. In order to effect an improvement in the conditions the Tokomairiro Eiver Board came into ex’stenoe about five or six years ago. There are seven members on the Board, four representing the Countv Council and three representing the Borough Council. In order to provide the necessary funds for the work undertaken, a. loan of about £2200 was raised. Tli© work for which the board was formed has been completed, and the present is, therefore, a period of inactivity.
