Splendid swimming was witnessed at thd Tepid Baths last evening when the Auckland provincial championships wore decided before a very large attendance of spectator*. Two excellent, performances during, .the evening were those of Misses Gwitha inland - and Piri Page, competing in the championship of 100 yards. Miss Shand. covered the distance in 66 1-bst-c, which time equals Miss Pauline Hoeft’s New Zealand record. Misses Pace. J. Bell, and E. Stockley -were the other competitors. From the start Miss Shand made the pace, closelv attended by Miss Stockley. When 66 ?-3 vavd* had been covered, these ‘two ladies were together, with Misses Page and Bell two yards behind. On the last lap Miss Shand, swimming with phenomenal dash, forged ahead to win by several yards from Miss Page, who was a foot irt front of Miss Bell. Miss Stockley could ‘ nob withstand the fast pace set in the e»riy part of the race and finished fourth. Mis«es Page and Bell also performed cro* ditablv in the Intermediate Girls’ 100 Yards Championship, the former’s effort better par* tieulnrly good. Miss Page won' in 69 2-5 sec, which is 1 3-ssec letter than her own dominion record. Miss Bel! was close up second, and Miss N. Farouhar was in the third place. W. E.
