Mr John C. Van Dyke, Professor of Art and Archaeology at Rutger’s College, K«w Brunswick, asserts that among the 800 or 1000 paintings attributed to Rembrandt he has been able to find only 35 which are reallv the work of his hand. According to Mr Van Dyke, not one of the 15 or : more Rembrandts in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is genuine. There are in the National Gallery in London, he says, only four real Rembrandts oat’of 21 attributed to him, and in the Kaiser Friedrich Museum in Berlin only three out of 26, with a shade of doubt about these three. Finally, ho says that in the Louvre there are only four true Rembrandts out of 23 credited to him. The wealth of Paris is so boundless ■ that the rubbish and refuse of the city are -worth millions. There are more than 50,000 persons earning a living by picking up what others throw away. . Lost children in Japan do not long remain astray.
