AQUATICS.

DEPARTURE OF JUNE. HOW DID PRESS KNOW IT? A meeting of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association was held in the Returned Soldiers’ Association’s rooms last evening. Present: Messrs H. E. Moller (chairman), C. G. Smith, E. A. Davys, T. Anderson, C. W. Sundstrum. D. Paterson, J. D. Cameron, and J. T. Paul. Mr Anderson asked how it was the statement that Juno and her crew were going to Wellington a week earlier had got into the newspapers, before a meeting of the association had been called. It seemed strange that the newspapers gleaned such information before members of the association. .

Tiie chairman said he did not give the information, but they all knew that a reporter was always on his job, and if he did not get the information he was seeking he was not a good reporter. It was general knowledge in the city that June and her crow were leaving earlier for Wellington, and it was not to be wondered at that the reporters got the information. Mr Paul said he thought the association had been placed in an invidious position. The association should not be told by the newspapers what to The matter lapsed after further discussion.

The Wellington Yacht and Motor Boat Association wrote intimating that it had arranged accommodation for all visitors to the Sanders C’’p contest. The Chairman stated that about 20 yachtsmen were going north.

With reference to a request by the association for the loan of Winifred’s sails for use in Wellington. Mr C. Speight wrote stating that Mr G. Relict t had charge of the sails and the request would have to ro to him. A letter was received from Mr Kellett. in which he agreed to this.

The Wellington Yacht and Motor Boat Association intimated that the dominion conference would be held in Wellington on January 21.
