THE NURSING PROFESSION.
QUESTION OF SUPERANNUATION. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 19. In view of the fact that the Health Depailmeut has failed to inaugurate a scheme fer the superannuation of nurses and hospital staffs, the Benevolent Committee of the North Canterbury Hospital Board recommended to the board to-day immediately to ta'ke steps to wstahlish a superannuation fund for the board’s service. The Rev. J. K Archer said that it was time the board exerted pressure in the direction of inaugurating a superannuation fund for nurses, and that it should wait on the Minister. Mr W. E. Leadicy said that a fund should be established bv the Government for nurses throughout the dominion, and provision ought to be made for nurses who retired after giving years of faithful service. If thev had a hospital Boards’ Association it could take the matter up. Mr S. Andrew said that Government servants came under the superannuation scheme, and why should nurses be left out? The matter wi.s referred to the Finance Committee for a report.
