DUNEDIN FIRE BOARD
The monthly mooting of the Dunedin Fire Board, hold yesterday afternoon, was attended by Messrs J, Wilson (in the chair), T. Chahner/VV. A. Scott. J. S. Webb, ,1,1. Clark, J. S. Hislop. and W. Begg. Accounts amounting to £1264 19s 5(1 were passed for payment, the financial position as at December 11 showing a credit balance of £3204 13s Id after the payment of accounts. The Superintendent (Mr A. C. Xapier) in his report stated that indications seemed to point to an unusually dry summer, and it had already occurred that important portions of the city had been almost entirely without an adequate water supply. The cuy officials were reported to be doing their best to conserve "wastage of water, but from his own observation a very considerable amount of water was daily (Saturday and Sunday included) running to waste in premises served by hydraulic lifts. This was surely a matter in which wastage could be stopped to a certain extent without much expense.—The report was adopted, and the secretary was instructed to forward a copy, toi the town clerk.
