SCHOOL BREAK-UPS.

FORBURY SCHOOL. The annual break-up ceremony of the t’odbury School was held in the St. Kikla Town Hall yesterday, the infants being taken in the morning, junior in the afternoon, and the senior pupils in the evening. A-fc each ceremony the hall was crowded with pupils, parents, and friends, and the utmost enthusiasm was in evidence. A quaint and entertaining programme of folk Bongs and dainty choruses was given by the infants in the morning, the kiddies putting their whole heart into their work. Undoubted talent was displayed by the juniors,

•who presented a varied and pleasing programme during the afternoon. The senior pupils proved themselves excellent entertainers, and their programme made a distinct impression. At the morning gathering the head master (Mr W. A. bproat) addressed a few words to the children. He mentioned that Miss Ford (infant mistress) would be leaving for the Old Country on exchange at the beginning of next year, and eulogised her abilities us cm inlant mistress. Mr W. Eudey, ©x-head master, also addressed the children and spoke highly of Miss Ford's work*.

Tho junior children were addressed by the Rev. Duncan Wright, the Rev. B. IMotscn, and Mr W. Fleming, all of whom wished the children a happy Christmas and to those who did not gain a prize every (Success next vear.

At tho evening gathering Mr J. Wallace, chairman of the Otago Education Board, stated that he rejoiced to see such a grand gathering of children and parents. It was wonderful to knew that such a hall could be filled three times in one day. In referring to the teaching staff, the speaker Stated thag tho Otago Education Board had every reason to be proud of tho Forbury ibohocl teachers. In conclusion, he wished tjhsm all a pleasant and happy holiday. The Revs. R. Scott Allan, R. Fairmaid, arid Guy Thornton. Messrs Patten and W. Endey (ex-head master) also addressed the children, the last-named being greeted with cheers upon rising to speak. The Hon. C. E. Statham presented the Navy League prizes and congratulated the scholars and teachers upon the excellent record shown for the year. The prize list is as follows:

ST. MARY’S CONVENT SCHOOL, MOSGIEL. A bright , entertainment preceded the annual distribution of prizes at the school conducted by the Sisters of Mercy, Mosgiel. Tuneful choruses, amusing dialogues, recitations, dances, and pianoforte solos were rendered by the children in a praiseworthy manner. The Mayor (Mr J. P. Walls), who presided, read the prize list, and at the conclusion of the function addressed the scholars and the parents and friends of the children who had assembled to listen to the entertainment provided. The proceedings closed with a vote of thanks to the sisters for their labours throughout the year and to the children for their concert.
