THE MARAROA DISPUTE. REMISSION OF FINES REQUESTED. IPbb United Paces Association.) WELLINGTON, December 18. A deputation from the Waterside Workers’ Federation asked the Hon. G. J. Anderson to-day to remit the fines imposed on the waterside workers who had refused to work the Mararoa after 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 14. It was pointed out on behalf of the men that there had been no collusion to defeat the provisions of the award, and that the employers had agreed to them being asked whether they wanted to work or not. The magistrate had refused the right to' appeal, which the union felt sure would have been granted. 'ine Minister replied that he would go into the matter, but pointed out the importance of waterside workers agreeing to work vessels after 5 p.m. on Saturdays to avoid inconvenience to the public.
