GRASS FIRES IN NEW SOUTH WALES. Preen Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, December 17. Grass fires are reported in the Wagga and Forbes districts. Considerable quantities of fodder have been destroyed. Rain is recorded iu many places in the southern half of the State. Cooler conditions arc prevailing, throughout the west, and rain is threatening. A NARROW ESCAPE. SYDNEY, December 17. During the progress of the Mosman regatta on the Parramatta River, the official launch unexpectedly ran under a ferry boat as the latter was moving from the Abbotsford wharf. The launch sank almost immediately, but the officials scented danger, and clambered on to th*. ferry boat without oven getting a ducking. MEAT FAMINE ENDED. ADELAIDE, December 17. (Received Dec. 17, at 7.40 p.m.) The meat famine has ended. The strikers resumed to-day pending the decisions of the conference which will consider their claims.
