DAIRY PRODUCE. The National Mortgage and Agency Company axe in receipt of the following cablegram from Messrs A. J. Mills and Co., London: — . Butter, 212 sto 2145. Prices are declining. Cheese: White, 106; coloured, 108 s. Prices are declining. The South Island Dairy Association hits received the following cablegram from the New Zealand Produce Association, London: The butter market is much weaker. Quotations: 212 s to 216 s ; Danish, 222s_ to 2245. The cheese market is slow. White, 106 s to 108 s; coloured, 108 s to 110 s. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. Messrs Donald Reid and Co. (Ltd.), report; Oats.—The continued dry weather has hardened up the market, and stocks in store arc about exhausted. We quote: A Gartons, 3s; B Cartons, 2s lOd; under-grade, from 2s (sacks extra). Chaff—Prime is always in demand, and anything coming forward is immediately snapped up. Medium quality is to quit, and there is no demand for inferior. AVe quote: Prime oaten sheaf, £5 7s 6d, medium to good, £4 to £4 16s; light and inferior, £2 10s to £3 10s tsaoks extra). Wheat.—Millers are still operating at ruling rates —viz., Tuscan, 5s 3Jd; Hunters, 5s s*d; and Velvet. 5s Ud. Good whole fowl wheat is keenly inquired for at 5s Id per bushel (sacks extra). . Potatoes. —New ones are coming in fairly freely. We quote: Local, to 4d per lb. North Island grown, to 2d. - Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Ltd.), report as follows: . , Oats. —Very few lines arc coming forward, and values are unaltered. We quote: A Gartons, 3s; B Gartens, 2s lOd; under-grade, from 2a per bushel (sacks extra). Fowl Wheat.—Prices remain firm, and any lines of good whole fowl wheat coming on the market arc readily saleable at up to 5s Id per bushel, ex store. A property comprising section 1, block: XLV, St. Kilda, containing about 18.4 poles, was offered for public auction under the conduct of the Registrar of the Supreme Court by Messrs Alex. Harris and Co. yesterday. The property was sold to Mr Anderson (as agent) for £250. TIMARU WOOL SALE. HIGH PRICES MAINTAINED. (Peb United Press Association.) TIMARU, December 17. The first sale of the Timaru wool season opened this morning in the presence of a full bench of buyers, representing all interests, local and overseas. The catalogue is a large one, containing 13,661 bales, compared with 8382 bales offered last year, the difference being accounted for by better shearing conditions during the last six weeks. The wool throughout came forward in com-, mendable condition, and from the _ outset it was plain that the buyers were intent on business, limits being unusually elastic, and bidding throughout spirited. Values were largely on the basis of the Christchurch sale last week, the range of prices being: Merino, 23d to 2SJd; Corriedale, 19 id to 27id; halfbred, 14Jd to 27id; three-quarter-bred, lid to 23Jd; crossbred, lid to 20£d; Romneys, 13d to 16d. Pieces: Merino, 16j|d to 19d; Corriedale, 20d to 221 d; halfbred, 9Jd to 25Jd; three-quarterbred, 9d to 19d; crossbred, 9Jd to 14Jd. Bellies: Halfbred, Iffjd to 19id; crossbred, 10|d to Hid; threequarterbred, 11 fd to Ibid; merino, 16d to 20d. Locks: Merino, 12£d; halfbred, b)d to 9fd; three-quarterbred, 7d to 9d.
